Psalm 101:1-8

A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer. Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve me. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight. I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

Do you see the three sections here? David begins with a prayer of praise as he urges his family to follow the LORD in all their ways. Dwell on that thought of walking in his house in a perfect way as a witness to his family. It should be stimulating to all of us with families.

David begins to excoriate all those followers of Satan whose attitudes are contrary to the way of the LORD. As you analyze the list of behaviors, think about the their type. Wouldn’t a good classification be attitudes? Pride of self? Those that are easily hidden behind a self-centered wall? Let us be careful, very careful not to be likewise.

Now he takes a brief step into his requirements for those he looks for in his circle of friends. In short, he looks for friends who strive those who seek to please the LORD, God, the Almighty. And then wraps it all up with a few fine adjustments of those whose way of life is not acceptable to the LORD.

And how do we reach this state of living in accordance to the Word of God? On our knees as we pour our hearts out in repentance as we acknowledge that the Son of God did it all for us on the Cross.
