A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Psalm 100:1-5

A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

This sentence seems to me to be the pivotal sentence of this Psalm, “Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” It is the reason that the ‘lands’ are directed to come into His presence with gladness and singing. It is the reason we are directed to enter His gates with thanksgiving, to praise and offer up thanksgiving to Him.

Why? “For the LORD is good!” Not the same ‘good’ when I have a bite of supper, smile at Betty and say, “Ummm, good” and I would be right. But this is not the same as declaring that the LORD, God, the Almighty to be good. No, this is the ultimate good, the absolutely perfect GOOD that is the Almighty.
