O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves. They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

My apologies to anyone who missed Voices Together yesterday. The day got away from me.

Vengence belongth to the LORD, God, the Almighty. Do you hear that, John!

Oh how I love to dream of being the knight in shining armor who rides to the defense of the widowed and the fatherless. But my LORD says, “Let me handle this, John, I’ll let you know when I need your help.” I need to remember that it is only at His direction can true justice be effectively applied. My meddling is just that and can only worsen the situation.

But as He leads...Oh, what joy in hearing “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Psalm 93:1-5

The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.

The LORD reigneth,...The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.”

Have you ever been at the base of a mighty waterfall, the Niagara for example? The noise generated by thousand of gallons per minute is the most deafening example I can think of, almost drowning out rational thought. And yet the presence of the LORD, God, the Almighty will be more overpowering. --Just His presence! What will it be like when He speaks?-- It will be impossible to resist the compulsion to prostrate oneself before Him. The phrase, “resist the compulsion” is far too weak, it will be more akin to slammed on the ground.

ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes. Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.

Meet Ish Elohim, Man of Yahweh, the name I have given to the Post-exilic scribe, whom I believe has written this most beautiful of Psalms. Focused entirely on worship of the LORD, God, the Almighty, it serves as an excellent guide for our own prayers. Join me as we work our way through it again, stanza by stanza, one on each Lord’s Day.

Read the stanza again and again, letting the praises of the LORD, soak into your heart and nourish your soul for the coming week.

O forsake me not utterly,” LORD, my God, the Almighty, and my Savior.

But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me. The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

Yes, I am rejoicing; the LORD is coming for His own and soon. Is it capricious for me to be convinced that He is coming for me in my life time? I will flourish in the courts of the LORD, God, the Almighty, maybe tomorrow. I won’t miss the aches and pains as I bring forth fruit in my old age. I will be a demonstration of the uprightness of LORD; that He indeed is My Rock.

A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it isthat they shall be destroyed for ever: But thou, LORD, art most high for evermore. For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall  be anointed with fresh oil.

As you read this, does a last times thought pop into your mind? It seems to me that both major political parties are bound and determined to out-lout the other. My first recollection of a presidential campaign was Truman vs. Dewey in 1948. Grandpa didn’t seem to think the campaign was all that gentlemanly, but my teenage aunt was glued to the radio on Election Night. Her candidate won.

But we know that this brutishness is a sign of the times. Don’tyou think we should be rejoicing rather than damming one party or the other?

Psalm 92:1-5

A Psalm orSong for the sabbath day.It is agood thingto give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy loving-kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands. O LORD, how great are thy works! andthy thoughts are very deep.

Hummm, our work on Lord’s Day is to focus on the works of the LORD, on their greatness and the complexity of His thoughts. A couple of things come to mind are wondering what He thinks of much ofthe pre-worship drivel that takes place before the formal Call to Worship. Should we not be settling into our pews, quietly review the week behind, prehaps seeking the LORD’s forgiveness for areas where we have not been a witness to His Glory.

Maybe planning the week ahead. A little repentance might be in order. Maybe even a little time reviewing this precious Psalm in preparation for our time of corporate worship.

Why is it that some self proclaimed Christians avoid worship on a Lord’s Day morning, but are fine attending a stadium of rabid football fans in the afternoon?

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; norfor the arrow thatflieth by day; Norfor the pestilence thatwalketh in darkness; norfor the destruction thatwasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; butit shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which ismy refuge, eventhe most High, thy habitation;

There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in theirhands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will bewith him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

A good Psalm for the day. Think about how much of our lives are governed by COVID concerns? Look at the shopping list of things and conditions that we are not supposed to fear; including the pestilence that walks in darkness. Maybe darkness here is used to indicate ignorance? Was that a reference to all the concerns and ignorance that is driving our society regarding the present furor regarding the pandemic. Do we need to trust the LORD, God, the Almghty more and the news pundits less? CNN does not demonstrate a Fear of the LORD in their news casts. And neither should we expect them to do so.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. (KJV)

Complete shelter in the shadow of the LORD, God, the Almighty. Covering me from attacks by the Evil One to sicknesses of the most virulent kind. To put it bluntly, He stands between me and COVID-19. There is no doubt in my mind, that one of the elements the LORD provides is the vaccination. Also, what I refer to as common sense, ie, avoiding associating unnecessarily with large crowds, is part of His protection. I have trouble understanding those who will avoid LORD’s Day worship because of the crowds but wouldn’t think of missing a Sunday afternoon in a football stadium.

Morning Psalm 73, Noon Psalm 119:121-128, Psalm 120

Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

There have been some interesting developments in the last 48 hours as a result of hackers (my stupidity) taking over my laptop and wiping ALL my files. Rebuilding is slow and costly. But LORD willing, Voices Together will continue. One of the most obvious temporary changes is that for the time-being, the column will be in the KJV rather than the customary NKJV. And so forward we go, knowing that the LORD, God, the Almighty is watching over us.

This passage is most appropriate under the circumstances. To see evil and yet pray the LORD’s work and His glory to appear to me and for Him to establish the work of my hands? This is the very center of the relationship I should have with the LORD.

Let my cry come before You, O LORD; Give me understanding according to Your word. Let my supplication come before You; Deliver me according to Your word.

My lips shall utter praise, For You teach me Your statutes. My tongue shall speak of Your word, For all Your commandments are righteousness. Let Your hand become my help, For I have chosen Your precepts. I long for Your salvation, O LORD, And Your law is my delight.

Let my soul live, and it shall praise You; And let Your judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; Seek Your servant, For I do not forget Your commandments.

Ish Elohim (the man of God) comes to the end of the great poem and concludes quite simply. This last stanza is a complete confession of his reliance upon the LORD! God, the Almighty. Please read and reread it. Let it percolate into your very being.  Make it yours.

For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Return, O LORD! How long? And have compassion on Your servants. Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil.

There is some very important wisdom in the ending phrase of the first paragraph, “So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.” I know how to count my days: Today is the 13th day of November in the 2021th year of my Lord. SO WHAT!

However if I look at that statement in the way I believe Moses intended; he was telling me to evaluate the potential of each day and make it count. Each day is a gift from the LORD, God, the Almighty; it is a sin to waste that gift. It must be used for His glorification. And at day's end, I must spend some time elaborating and remembering each element of the day, examining each to see how He was revealed to Betty and me, step by step throughout the day.

Sometimes, it is hidden, as in the phone call from Tony, our eldest. It took some conversation before we realized that the true purpose of the call was to tell us that they both have been diagnosed with Covid-19. Please join us in prayer for their healing and thanksgiving that they have been vaccinated.

You turn man to destruction, And say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night. You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up: In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers.

For we have been consumed by Your anger, And by Your wrath we are terrified. You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

There are no secret sins in the eyes of the LORD, God, the Almighty. We stand before Him as the early morning grasses, with all before us known to Him. We grow, we flourish, we wither and die in the heat of the day. All is the consuming sins of our lives.

Yet, as we shall see, You are there for us, to pick us up, dust us off and continue to use us to further Your Kingdom.
