The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof. Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

The LORD reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.” Yes, the LORD does reign, the earth does rejoice, the multitude of the isles are glad. But do I see the celebration? No, the vestiges of the Evil One that still pervade my soul screen me from the enjoyment by the creation of the goodness of the creator towards the created.

Reading

Morning Psalm 91, Noon Psalm 89-96, Psalm 138

An alternate Reading Plan is based on 7 chapters/day from 7 sections of the Scriptures. My groupings are: Genesis-Joshua, Judges to Esther, Job to Song of Solomon, Psalms breaking 119 into convenient sets, Isaiah to Malachi, Matthew to Acts, Romans to Revelation.

Or set your own reading schedule up in convenient groupings as fits your study habits. But a daily time in the Word of the LORD is an absolute.

Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice. Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

Isn’t this a beautiful exposition of the majesty of the LORD, God, the Almighty. I sit here at my computer reading and reading it; each time leaves me with a feeling of “WOW, what a mighty God I serve.”

We had a powerful teaching on the 5th commandment yesterday morning. A continuation of a series on the Ten Commandments, not from the usual viewpoint as “regulations” to govern our Christian life, but as a summary statement of the revelation of the transformation of our lives as acts of worship. In a sense, #2 through #10 substantiate #1 “I am the LORD thy God, ...Thou shalt have none other gods before me.”

This precious Psalm drives that same point home. It is a statement of the magnificence of the LORD.

Morning Psalm 90, Noon Psalm 81-88, Psalm 137

GIMEL. Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word. Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me. My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.

Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments. Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies. Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes. Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.

This is an interesting stanza, especially as I look at Ish Elohim’s last statement; an avowal of the pleasure and direction thaat he receives from the Word of the LORD. Right off the bat is an admission that his life and obedience are dependent upon the guidance received from the LORD. He and I are very much in agreement that while our salvation is not dependent upon obedience to the Ten Commandments, our lives as members of the family of the LORD, God, the Almighty are far richer than lives of disobedience.

For instance, not taking the LORD’s Name in vain is a public witness to the part He plays in setting the tone for all aspects of my life. It is a mark of the fealty that he and I share.

Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

Look at this precious phrase. “shew forth his salvation from day to day” What do you think the Holy Spirit is trying to tell us? Is is only a “God bless you” throwaway to a clerk as you pick up your bags and leave the store? NO, NOT AT ALL! In fact, if I’ve just finished a tirade regarding the store, the management, the cost and service, the rant brings dishonor upon the Name of the LORD. Not the best way to advance the Personal Mission Field. Quite likely, the clerk has heard it all before and is dreaming about a job where he never has to face the public again.

Maybe a “Thank you for your service, this is a demanding job. God bless you.” could easily be an opening for future conversations. You might even be remembered on the next trip as the customer who smiles.

Psalm 95:6-11

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: Unto whom I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

Two pictures here. The first is the willing worshiper, there is a tone of seriousness, maybe because of the warning not to harden my heart, that needs to be applied to my worship. Yes to express my joy at being in His presence. To celebrate The LORD’s Supper with other believers. To know that we worship a common Savior. To know that we are called to a common purpose. To be called to a common day of praise for the LORD, God, the Almighty.

But the other picture in the latter part of this section is one of damnation of those called but not answering; God determined that they should not enter into His rest. And the place that is ‘not His rest’ is that place that is separated forever from Him—Gehenna.

Let us never forget that as we assemble on the LORD’s Day morning, that we assemble to worship Him and Him alone. We are not there to sing feel good praise choruses but to sing of His grace and power and might and love and goodness and...

In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

No place to hide, no where, neither height nor depth; no strength exceeds His. When will I learn that the LORD, God, the Almighty is precisely that, the ===The Almighty===. I cannot outsmart Him, I cannot hide from Him, He is LORD of All, with no exceptions. I have been in mines almost a ½ mile below the surface of the earth—He was there. I have flown 5+ miles above the earth—He was there. I have been in deserts and lush forests—He was there. I have sailed on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans—He was there.

Yes for me and yes for you if you have accepted Him as LORD and Savior. He is there for His own. Oh, peace divine, peace beyond all measure.

Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had T almost dwelt in silence. When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up. In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.

Who will stand up for me? The LORD, God, the Almighty is my help and my comforter. I need to learn to cast my lot with the LORD when my thoughts begin to overwhelm me, to cry, “Lord, help me” rather than wrestle with my thoughts to gain control.

Ps 119:9-16

BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

The eleventh verse, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” has been the verse that is the key to understanding the 119th. It brings my heart, soul, and mind to focus on the need for this Psalm. It is the key to my expression of thanksgiving for my salvation and acknowledgment of the LORDship of Jesus Christ. He is the all above all else.

With that understanding, I can joyfylly sing the second paragraph.

Psalm 94:8-11

Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see. He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

Our thanksgivings were raised yesterday...or were they truly thanksgivings? The cynic in me wonders. Were those avowals of thanksgivings, of praise and loyalty to Him truly from my heart or were they but an idiot’s foolish attempt to pull wool over the eyes of the one who is Wisdom?

How I live; how I obey; how I witness on the Ides of March is a far more reliable indicator of the reality of my faith than is the sincerity of the prayers I offered at our family Thanksgiving feast.

Forgive me, LORD, God, the Almighty. I am but a weak, broken reed lashed by every hint of criticism.
