Abiding Near to God

Be more like Jesus

Psalm 15 NRSV
O Lord, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill?
Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart; who do not slander with their tongue, and do no evil to their friends, nor take up a reproach against their neighbors; in whose eyes the wicked are despised, but who honor those who fear the Lord; who stand by their oath even to their hurt; who do not lend money at interest, and do not take a bribe against the innocent. Those who do these things shall never be moved.

O God, I want to dwell moment by moment in your presence.
I want the way I live to be pleasing to you.
I want my attitudes, thoughts, and emotions to be pleasing to you.
I want the way I treat others to be caring and loving.
I want to hate wickedness as you hate wickedness.
I want to follow the example of the “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) – those from the past as well as those today – whose lives exude faithfulness to you.
I want to be a person whose word can be depended on, being faithful to what I say regardless of the cost.
I want to be a good and generous steward of all that you have given me.
Yet, Father God, I know that I cannot do this. I do not have the ability to change my mind and change my heart. I do not have the moral strength to remake my character.
But you do.
Spirit of God, fill me with yourself today. Change my heart and change my mind. Make me into the new person you desire me to be.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 NKJV)
Amen.

If you have found this meditation helpful, take a moment and give thanks to God. Then share what you learned with a friend. This is how the grace of God spreads (2 Corinthians 4.15).
