“Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as you wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20
Imagine the Holy Spirit of God at work in the physical body of a human being (Mary) to make flesh the eternal God. This is incarnation: “Hail, hail, the Word made flesh, the Babe, the son of Mary” –from What Child Is This? Now imagine the Holy Spirit at work in you, drawing you to the Son of God, convicting you of sin, showing you how to live righteously and overcome the evil one. (John 16: 8-11) Imagine the Holy Spirit conforming you to the character of Christ, writing God’s law on your heart and using you as an encouragement to your brothers and sisters in Christ. Imagine this same Spirit working through you to take Christ’s gospel to your neighborhood and the ends of the earth! What has just been described in not merely imagination but reality. That same Spirit who made flesh your Lord, who filled Him and led Him and anointed Him to proclaim good news to the poor (Luke 4:1, 18-19) and raised Him from the dead- this same Holy Spirit also fills His people, leads them and anoints them for service. In fact, everything that happens in your life that points to Christ, reveals Christ and proclaims Christ is the work of the Holy Spirit. Just imagine, believer, the Holy Spirit of God at work in you and through you to reveal and proclaim the Son of God! May it be reality!
