A Work To Do

Jesse Slusher

“As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.” (John 20:21)

Each in our own life, in our own sphere are sent by God to do the Father’s work.  Each of us has a work to do.  Each of us has a work to finish.  And, like Jesus, we are to live in the present tense of being involved in “doing” that work.(John 5:36)  Though the specifics of our work are different for each person according to our callings,  gifts and circumstances, the work the Father gives us will likely take us to a garden of Gethsemane where we will say, “not as I will, but as You will.”   (Matt. 26:36-46)   The work that the Father has given us to do will likely take us to a cross.  In some measure the work the Father has given us will cost our life.  A finished work will mean the laying down of our life in order to experience a resurrection.  (Philippians 3:7-11)  Many abandon the work of God faced with their own dying to self and thus never “finish” what the Father has given them to do.  Yet, if we embrace the work our Father has given us to do and the cross that goes with it, we can be certain that a promise of life will be ours as well.
