Romans 14:1-3

John Nunnikhoven

Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him.

Paul is pointing out that we tend to be very good at disputing the minor and inconsequential. The omission of commentary regarding the truly consequential thunders in its silence.

Think about this the next time, John, you are tempted to argue about the sin of eating green beans on Tuesdays.

Readings:

Morning Psalm 116, Noon Psalm 119:33-40, Evening Psalm 67
