Of David.Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.
Betty and I went to see a dear brother who had just been told that his cancer was incurable, giving him a very short life expectation. This is a man who has ministered to us many times over the years and I was wondering what I could say to him to give him comfort. My concern was for naught, my friend was true to form even lying there in a hospital bed as he introduced us to this precious Psalm of faith and trust.
His point was that the Hebrew word, translated here as commit, has a sense of rolling a load off my shoulder onto someone. Commitment to the Lord includes a rolling of my burdens onto His shoulders. Just what He promised in Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Trust in Him and my righteousness and justice will shine like the noonday sun. Hallelujah!
