Psalms 119:83-88

John Nunnikhoven

For I have become like a wineskin in smoke, Yet I do not forget Your statutes.

How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me? The proud have dug pits for me, Which is not according to Your law. All Your commandments are faithful; They persecute me wrongfully; Help me! They almost made an end of me on earth, But I did not forsake Your precepts.

Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

My brother in the LORD, the post-exilic scribe, ends the first half of his magnus opus on a note of discouragement. A 'how much longer note'; an 'I've been faithlful to obey you all these years' note. He does not hesitate to remind the LORD according to His lovingkindness. He steps right up and and says, "Keep Your promise so I can be an obedient servant."

I don't feel that the LORD has let me down and not fulfilled His Word, but there have been times when I did not recognize that He was being faithful to His Word.

Open my eyes, LORD, to the beautiful completeness of Your Word.
