The Ephraimites, armed with the bow, turned back on the day of battle. They did not keep God’s covenant, but refused to walk according to his law. They forgot his works and the wonders that he had shown them.
How often has the Church backed away from a battle, caving in and using a pretext of love and peace or a deliberate misinterpretation of the Lord’s words to judge not to avoid confrontation? We seek to assimilate rather than confront.
Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned against you and disobeyed Your Word. Discipline Your Church, return us to our first love.
