Psalm 57:1-2

John Nunnikhoven

To the Chief Musician. Set to “Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David when he fled from Saul into the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.  I will cry out to God Most High, o God who performs all things for me.

Was this the time when David and his men were hiding in the back of a cave and Saul decided to relieve himself in the front? His men urged him to take his vengeance upon Saul, but David refused, “Shall I lift my hand against the LORD's anointed?”

No, David trusted in the LORD , he could not lift his hand in a way that was contrary to the directions of the LORD.

So must I, in all situations where worldly wisdom urges me to take revenge utilizing the methods of the culture. As David's example shows me, I must not repay evil with evil. The Word of God provides guidance that is based on Him to perform all things for me.
