Philippians 4:4-8 [4]

John Nunnikhoven

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Here's the triple play of the Christian faith; to make my desires known to God (supplication) through prayer, well seasoned with thanksgiving. This should be the most common aspect of my Christian life–to be a man of unceasing prayer. Certainly not an extremely rare event as the baseball version, but as normal as breathing.

"Known to God." Well, doesn't He know? Of course He does, but do I? Do I really understand that all things are under His control?

I have a long ways to go. The longer I live in the Kingdom in the here and now, the more I realize my insufficiency and His sufficiency.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:121-128
