"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
A typical example of man's determination to 'fix' the Word. But I am directed to love my enemy, not hate him. Not tolerate, or ignore, or get along with, or … but love (and the word used is agape), sacrificial love? Not just get along with but go out of my way to be a servant to him. This is a hard teaching that can only be obeyed through the transforming power of the Spirit.
Today's readings in the Psalms:
Morning: Psalm 109
Mid-day: 119:17-24
Evening: Psalm 35
