Luke 18:31-34

John Nunnikhoven

Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again." But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken.

At first brush, I find this very strange. Jesus plainly stated that the prophesies, which the disciples clearly would have been familiar with, will be accomplished. But they didn't understand. So what made me such a hot shot that I have complete recall and total understanding of the Word of the Lord? I'm not! And I don't! Either!

But what the Lord expects from all of us who name Him as our Lord and Savior, is acceptance of those 'all things' until the time is right for understanding. I must accept that there is much that I cannot comprehend as a finite being, but must trust that the LORD,God, the Almighty, the infinite being, is in charge of all things
