For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness, Nor shall evil dwell with You. The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity You shall destroy those who speak falsehood; The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
Sometimes my focus is on the joy of the LORD, His perfection and beauty, His sense of the completeness of His creation. Can't you see the LORD, God, the Almighty rolling the Creation in the palm of His hand and saying, “That's good, that's very good” with a smile on His face that stretches from eternity to eternity. I get a very slight sense of that joy as I admire a very colorful and well polished agate.
But this is different, this is the triune God's disgust at the wreckage of His carefully wrought jewel. I remember when I gave a grandchild a bear that I had carved out of an exquisite, beautifully grained wood. The next time I saw it, totally desecrated by a marking pen, I wanted to cry. I wonder, are the hurricanes, the earthquakes, the floods, etc, the aftershocks of the LORD's sorrow?
