Exodus 20:1-2, 7

John Nunnikhoven

And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. … You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

Numbers 30:2 If a man vows a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

Am I a man of my word? Are my yea, yea and my nay, nay? Do I profane the Name of the LORD by breaking my promises? Is it not implicit in my claiming to be a follower of Christ, a Christian, that I should be considered as one who is faithful to not dishonor the Name of the LORD?

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:89-96
