Ephesians 4:1-3

John Nunnikhoven

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

How eager am I to maintain the unity of the Spirit or would I rather win an argument? Am I willing to bear with a brother in love (agape)? Or is my pride more precious to me than serving him? I need to learn to start each discussion of a theological point by asking myself how the outcome will affect my walk as a disciple of Jesus Christ. If the issue is one of my conviction that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, that no one comes to the Father except through Him, I better stick to my guns. Anything less? Perhaps the unity of the Spirit is more important than where I stand on an issue.
