Colossians 4:7-9

John Nunnikhoven

Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me. I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts, with Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will make known to you all things which are happening here.

I remember, as a youth, during the worship time known as Breaking of Bread, that a brother from another community would begin a conversation with, “I would like to bring you greetings and the news from the saints assembled in (another community) and the brothers present would respond appropriately. We knew many of those saints and would be pleased to get the news. Obviously, pre-cell phone and cheap phone charges.

I do need to mention that it was a very small and almost inbred sect. But I had teenage friends from NYC to LA.

Not today. And we have lost something very precious—I cannot tell you who is the pastor of the next Baptist north on Route 100.(maybe 10 miles, but certainly not the 75 miles to Peoria) The Church has suffered by this lack of inter-congregational fellowship. It maybe to late to recover.
