For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
The Lord is not willing that any should perish, (2 Peter 3:9) but it is up to me to accept the gift freely offered and to demonstrate the effectiveness of that gift through every aspect of my life. This does require effort on my part, sometimes well described as toiling and striving. The old man does not die willingly.
But my hope is set on the living God, the Savior of all people.
