A Kingdom Catechism
Civil governments should seek to obey the Law of God.
Q 28: Should civil governments then seek to follow the Law of God?
A 28: Because the Law of God brings life and peace, civil governments do well to follow the Law of God. (Dan. 4.27; Matt. 14.1-4; Lev. 18.1-5)
Civil governments should and do follow the Law of God, whether or not they admit this to be so. Even appeals to “natural law” bear witness to the Biblical teaching that the Law of God is written on the hearts of all people.
Politicians and lawmakers will often seek to find ways around the holy and righteous and good standards of God, but they are only able to do so as they equivocate their intentions and as a people, uninformed of the requirements of God’s Law, allow them to do so.
Hence the continuing need for Christians to live, practice, and work for the implementation of God’s Law in public policy and civil statute.
