Meekness and majesty
Hebrews 5:7-10 NRSV
In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Â Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
Salvation Accomplished
Leo the Great
Our origin, corrupted right after its start, needed to be reborn with new beginnings. A victim had to be offered for reconciliation, a victim that was at one and the same time both related to our race and foreign to our defilement. In this way alone could the plan of God – wherein it pleased him that the sin of the world should be wiped away through the birth and passion of Jesus Christ – in this way alone could the plan of God be of any avail for the times of every generation. Nor would the mysteries – as they pass through various developments of time – disturb us. Instead, they would reassure us, since the faith by which we live would not have differed at any stage.
Lord Jesus Christ,
Source of eternal salvation, Redeemer of all humanity, have mercy on me and forgive me for my sins. Deliver me, I pray, from sinful patterns of thought that have dug deep “pathways” in my mind. In your life on earth, Lord Jesus, you chose the way of reverent submission and obedience to the Father’s will. Help me, O Lord, to reverently and fully submit my will to be obedient to all that God the Father commands. His ways are best, and your example is perfect. Help me to follow in your footsteps every day of my life.
Amen.
