The Prophet is Called

Jeremiah 1:4-10 NKJV
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

Then said I:
“Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

But the Lord said to me:
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.
Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me:
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.”

Creating and calling Father,
You who empower your people for the words and works that you call them to say and do, we need a jolt of reality and truth like you gave to your servant Jeremiah. We, too, are fraught with fear and feelings of inadequacy.
We need the reminder that you knew us and planned for our lives before we drew our first breath.
We need the confidence that comes from knowing that we trust not in our own ability but in your anointing and power.
We need the courage that comes from knowing that we need not be afraid because “. . . I am with you to deliver you.”
O God, would you “put forth your hand” and touch us? For the life you have called us to live, and the work you have called us to do, teach us your will and fill us with your power. We need the presence of your Holy Spirit with us and in us every moment of every day. Fill us even now, we pray.
Amen.

Lord, Speak to Me that I May Speak
