Look for the Light
Isaiah 9:1-2 NLT
Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine.
Luke 1:76-79 NLT
And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.
O God of tender mercies, God of light and Deliverer from darkness,
We come to you from the shadows of our sin into the brightness of the salvation you have provided through Jesus Christ our Messiah. You have freed us from the darkness of slavery to sin through Jesus. You have forgiven us for our sin – our living a life of selfish choice – through Jesus. You have taken us from the darkness of our old lives and brought us into the light of new life in Jesus. You are not somewhere out there, nor do you just watch us from a distance, but you came near to us – became one of us – through the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord. You have come, Lord Jesus, to “guide us to the path of peace.” We want to join you on that peaceful path today. As John prepared the way for Jesus to be introduced to the world, may we prepare the way for those around us to see and know Jesus.
Amen.
