I was dealing with a very difficult and perplexing problem in the spring of 1989 and tackling it by trying to learn everything I could on the subject. One evening, as I continued my studies, God told me very clearly that the root of the problem was that I did not know Him. I put down the book I was reading and picked up a Bible figuring that was where I was going to find Him. That began what has been a 27-year search to know, really know in a John 17:3 way, the Lord, God the Almighty.
Voices Together has been and continues to be, a very important part of that search.
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens… O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Verses 1a and 9 are bookends that David is using to display evidence of the majesty of the LORD, God the Almighty. He picks a relationship, in some ways, a most surprising point of evidence, yet it should not be.
That relationship is our ordination by the LORD as His stewards charged with a fiducial trust of the creation. Yes, we violated that trust and continue to do so, but the LORD has not relieved us of our responsibility.
Our performance continues to be one of the ways by which we acknowledge the majesty of the LORD, God the Almighty.
Today's readings in the Psalms:
Morning: Psalm 147
Mid-day: 119:1-8
Evening: Psalm 72
