Philippians 4:4-7 [1]

John Nunnikhoven

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

To rejoice is far more than a quiet, self-contained joy; it is to let that joy bubble out in every circumstance. It is that sense of rejoicing in all circumstances that enabled Horatio Spafford to write the great hymn, "It is Well with My Soul" after learning that his four daughters had been lost at sea. It is the conviction that our Lord is in control of ALL things and we have nothing to fear. No fretting! Rejoice in the Lord always!

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:153-160
