Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.
Lord, I pray for Your Church, that we will not be sucked into the world's constructed idols. These idols take strange and unexpected forms, so subtle and attractive. An article in today's local paper, regarding a family who has chosen to pursue a child's sports career even though it has totally separated them from the Church, breaks my heart. It brings to mind our family's devotion to family activities that took Your place when our children were younger; we are paying the price today. Forgive us, Lord, we have sinned against You. Bring our children and grandchildren to know and love You.
