A Kingdom Catechism
The gateway to all sin.
Q 127: What is the tenth commandment?
A 127: The tenth commandment is, “You shall not covet.” (Ex. 20.17; Deut. 5.21)
Since covetousness is idolatry (Col. 3.5), covetousness is the gateway to all sin. It lays the foundation for all rebellion against God, all casting aside of His authority, Law, and gracious care, in order to nurture unlawful affections toward unlawful ends. The tenth commandment thus loops us back to the first, making the entire Law a tight inclusio of the divine will, and warning us against that most powerful affection which can cause us to turn from the ways of the Lord.
