A Kingdom Catechism
We must approach the Law with a view to learning from it.
Q 13: Which parts of the Law are useful for these purposes?
A 13: All the Law of God, being perfect, sure, right, pure, and true, is useful for God’s purposes, but not in the same way. (Ps. 19.4-7; Ps. 119)
We must embrace this as a first principle if we are going to gain any benefit from the Law of God. All the Law is useful. Righteous men should meditate on it day and night (Ps. 1). We must seek to learn the Law of God and pray earnestly that we might love it and, as the Lord gives us a heart to do so, live in obedience to it.
There must be no tentativeness in or squeamishness about the Law of God on the part of the followers of Jesus Christ. The challenge is to understand how the unchanging and abiding Law of God, holy and righteous and good, must be understood and obeyed in our day, according to the spirit of the Law and not according to the letter (2 Cor. 3.5, 6).
