Look to the Lord

There is a calm, a sure retreat

Psalm 123 NKJV
Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He has mercy on us. Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us! For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorn of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.

Loving Lord and Faithful Father,
We lift our hands in praise to you, but also in exasperation. We bear the reproach of your name from people who proudly defy your ways, ridicule our faith, and arrogantly boast in their ease and affluence.
We lift our eyes in loving worship of you, but also with longing for the hope of your presence. The people of this world’s “kingdom” care nothing for You, O Lord, but instead mock and slander the precepts of your Kingdom and deny your rightful rule.
Our eyes long to see you act in mercy toward us and in justice for all who seek you. We lift our hearts in faith, knowing that our help comes from you. We place our trust in you, faithful Lord, and commit our needs and necessities, our hope and confidence, our protection and provision, to your divine providence and perfect timetable.
Amen.
