It’s cold in the shadow.
Lord, I have stopped, arrested by the geometric quality of this scene at my feet. This clear delineation of sun and shade, with crisp lines drawn on the tousled grass. It’s a parallel parable of the warmth of your love, and the cold of what tries to hide from it.
What in my heart still shelters in the shade? What frost remains? David, at his lowest moment, asked you to grant him a willing spirit to sustain him. (Ps. 51:12). Make our hearts willing, Lord, to receive your presence. Come and melt the vestiges of lingering winter.
