Show us Your mercy, LORD, And grant us Your salvation. Psalm 85:7- 13

John Nunnikhoven

Show us Your mercy, LORD, And grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the LORD will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints; But let them not turn back to folly.

Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the LORD will give what is good; And our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

A scant 108 words, but powerfully packed with the relationship between ourselves and the LORD, God, the Almighty. Look at the pairings. Mercy and salivation. My hearing as the LORD speaks. Peace and avoidance of folly. Salvation, fear of the LORD and His glory. Mercy and truth. Righteousness and peace. The LORD's goodness as it spreads righteousness and provides a pathway for our foot steps.

But the LORD's grace is not mentioned. Why? Could it be that His Grace is the summary of all these elements. Could it be that His Grace, His Goodness, His Love are synonyms that emphasize different elements of those Supreme Being(s) that are the triune Lord, God, the Almighty?
