The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness Psalms 18:20-24

John Nunnikhoven

The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God. For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me.

I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.

David recognizes that the LORD is the standard setter, not David. See the sentence “For all His judgments were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me.” It is our function and responsibility to become aware, very aware of our LORD's standards for righteousness, for cleanliness, and for proper application of His Word. David understands the relationship between blame and iniquity. Tightly interwoven in God's eyes. My cleanliness IN HIS SIGHT.

I wonder, was Psalm 19 written before or after his affair with Bathsheba? Sometimes we learn by playing with fire.
