Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it to the end. Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it. Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.
Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devoted to fearing You. Turn away my reproach which I dread, For Your judgments aregood. Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.
Our scribe of the 119thPsalms pleads to be revived in the way of the LORD through the establishment of the Word in him, to bring about holy fear and a rejection of the LORD's reproach. He acknowledges the goodness of the LORD's judgments and for a satisfaction of a longing for and understanding of God's precepts and righteousness.
Should not my daily prayers take exactly the same format? I don't think they did today. As I review by prayer time with the brothers of the Fellowship of Ailbe this evening, my focus was directed towards specific goals that I was pleading with the LORD for His hand in satisfying.
Not unworthy ends in themselves, but certainly not pleading for a deeper relationship with Him.
