Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it tothe end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with mywhole heart.
Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it.
Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to covetousness.
Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, Andrevive me in Your way.
Establish Your word to Your servant, Who is devotedto fearing You.
Turn away my reproach which I dread, For Your judgments aregood.
Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.
As I read through this stanza, several times, I was struck by each of the first seven verses and their pleas for growth in the ways of the Lord. Teach! Give! Make! Incline! Turn! Establish! And turn again! Finally that summary plea, "Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness." I hear a note of desperation in the voice of the scribe who wrote this beautiful tribute to the LORD, God, the Almighty.
May I and each of my readers be consumed by the same thirst for the Word.
