Jeremiah 21:11-14

John Nunnikhoven

"And concerning the house of the king of Judah, say,'Hear the word of the LORD, O house of David! Thus says the LORD: "Execute judgment in the morning; And deliver him who isplundered Out of the hand of the oppressor, Lest My fury go forth like fire And burn so that no one can quench it,Because of the evil of your doings. "Behold, I amagainst you, O inhabitant of the valley, Androck of the plain," says the LORD, "Who say, 'Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter our dwellings?' But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings," says the LORD; "I will kindle a fire in its forest, And it shall devour all thingsaround it." ' "

There is an air of defiance throughout this passage; an air of being smarter than the LORD,God, the Almighty; an air of putting the individual in the position of decision-maker, “This is nonsense, God didn't really say,'Let there be…and there was. No, it was obviously evolution because I can grasp that.”'

Or as William Henley wrote in Invictus, “It matters not how strait the gate/How charged with punishment the scroll/I am the master of my fate/I am the captain of my soul.” The LORD, God, the Almighty's response? “I will kindle a fire…and it will devour all things. Put that in your craw and chew on it, little master of your fate.”

We swallowed Satan's lie, hook, line and sinker. Genesis 3:5  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
