Jeremiah 17:9-10

John Nunnikhoven

“The heart is deceitful above all things,And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

This passage has to receive the top honor for the least understood and least accepted verse in all of Christendom. And yet exceedingly straight forward. The LORD, God, the Almighty states the condition. The deceitful heart wins in the All Things trophy in the desperately wicked category, hands down. The LORD has searched every heart, made allowances for every man’s ways and results as displayed. But we all flunk. Romans 3:22b-23 For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Yet we all insist of doing the little Jack Horner thing as we pull out our good deeds and declare, “What a good boy am I” I always suspected he stole the Christmas Pie from his mother. And so have we as we refuse the LORD gift of reconcilliation and to give the Him the credit and thanksgiving due.
